Gloves as a gift

“Throughout the Middle Ages the gloves have also represented one of the most important tokens of love. If the lady gave her glove to a knight, this knight could be sure of her true and lasting feelings. The knight attached the lady´s glove into his belt or helmet, where it was supposed to bring good luck in the battle.

In his short Story The fair maid of Perth, set in Scotland in about 1400, Sir Walter Scott describes how Catherine, who dared to kiss sleeping Henry Smith on a Valentine´s Day, had to give him gloves in return for such an act.”
